Bieber and Gomez had a rocky relationship from the time they were teens, often breaking up and making up. They were even spending time together a few months before he reunited with another former girlfriend, model Hailey Baldwin. Bieber and Baldwin got engaged in July 2018 and confirmed they were married in November 2018.
On Tuesday, Gomez released her new song, “Lose You To Love Me.” The video, shot entirely on an iPhone 11 Pro, presents Gomez in the center of the screen reciting the lyrics to her song. She stares into the camera lens and is portrayed in a black and white filter.
After listening closely to the lyrics, many fans have speculated that the song is dedicated to Bieber.
The song begins, “You promised the world and I fell for it/I put you first and you adored it.” A few lines after, Gomez sings “Set fire to my purpose/And I let it burn.” This is thought to be a nod to Bieber since his last album was released in 2015 and titled “Purpose” featuring a song of the same name.
Not only do fans believe that this song is about Bieber, but they also believe that Baldwin isn’t too happy about it either. Shortly after Gomez released her song, Baldwin posted a screenshot of the song “I’ll Kill You” by Summer Walker to her Instagram Story. This lead fans to question if she was responding to Gomez’s lyrics.Source: Hailey Bieber Instagram
Many fans have tweeted their support for Gomez:
If Selena wants to write about Justin Bieber, LET HER. She can heal however she needs to and wants to. Everyone deals with their own pain in different ways. Goodbye. #LoseYouToLoveMe
