In March, Trebek revealed to the media that he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. After receiving treatment, he returned to work at the end of August,Ā when the taping of the current season began.
Gaur shared on Twitter in a series of tweets that on the day of Monday’s taping, Trebek told the contestants that he would need to reenter treatment for his cancer.
…for context, Alex had just shared with us that he was reentering treatment for pancreatic cancer. We were all hurting for him so badly. 2/n

Trebek was moved by Gaur’s answer and said in response, “Dhruv, you’re smiling. I like that. Let’s take a look at your response. Did you come up with the right one? No? What is, ‘We love you, Alex.” His voice began to tremble, “That’s very kind of you. Thank you.”
Monday’s episode was apart of The Tournament of Champions, in which former contestants return for another show. Contestants are going to wear purple ribbons to support pancreatic cancer awareness. At the end of this week, contestants have planned a “play along” fundraiser, which encourages viewers at home to donate $1 to pancreatic cancer research for each correct response they come up with.
