Tom Hanks plays Fred Rogers AKA Mister Rogers in the upcoming film “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” The resemblance between these two are undeniable. What makes this even better is that Hanks recently found out he’s related to Mr. Rogers!
A discovery made by Ancestry.com reveals that the two stars are sixth cousins and share the same great-great-great-great-great grandfather, Johannes Mefford. Not only did Ancestry.com prove this, but CBS representative also confirmed the familial relation by using its database of over 20 billion online historical records.
Tom and wife Rita Wilson learned of the family relation at the NYC premiere of “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” Access revealed the fun fact to the pair who were left in shock. “Impossible,” Wilson said “No, you’re pulling our leg.” Tom was just as amazed when he saw a photo proving the relationship. “It all just comes together, you see,” he said.
This just proves that Tom Hanks was the perfect match to play the iconic role of Mr. Rogers!
