The Game of Thrones series finale left a lot of fans wanting more, and one of the show’s stars thinks he knows why. In a recent interview, Peter Dinklage discussed the negative reaction to the final season and finale.
People complained throughout the entirety of the season, and Dinklage thinks it may have just been a case of separation anxiety.
“Well, everybody’s always going to have an opinion, and that means an ownership. It’s like breaking up with somebody. They get upset,” Dinklage said during an interview with The New Yorker. “I can’t speak for everybody, but my feeling is they didn’t want it to end, so a lot of people got angry. I feel like what Dave [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] did was extraordinary.ink This happens.”
Many people felt that the final season was rushed by showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
But for Dinklage, especially when it comes to the quick character turn for Daenerys Targaryen, we should have seen some of the final twists come from afar.
“Monsters are created. And you don’t see it coming. We vote them into office. You look the other way,” Dinklage said. “So for everybody to get upset because they loved a character so much and they had so much faith in that person—there were signposts all along the way for that character.”
Unfortunately, the show is now over.
So while the final season may have left a sour taste in many people’s mouths, at least we got to enjoy one of the best shows in television history.
