Okay, I can’t hate on fashion bloggers. Sure, it may seem like all they do is make their boyfriends take pictures of them while they pretend to gaze off into the distance, but when you get right down to it, fashion blogging takes a lot of time, work and creativity. These bloggers are acting as creative directors, social media mavens, models, stylists, editors, web designers and taste makers – and while they aren’t doing any of those things as well as the pros are, they are creating a cool and interesting new trend in digital media.
But let’s be real here. I’ll never understand certain things the blogger set seems to love. Okay, so I’m the distant cousin of a fashion blogger – a lifestyle blogger who sometimes veers into fashion blogger territory – but I can pretty much assure you that you probably won’t be seeing me wear any of these things anytime soon. Obviously I reserve the right to change my mind at any time, though. Just don’t expect to see me rocking the last item on this list ever.
Coats-as-capes: You know, the whole “I’m wearing a coat but I’m not actually going to put my arms in there” thing. Like, what is that? Gurl, you look cold. And uncomfortable. And like you’re trying too hard. Just wear the damn coat! And it that’s too mainstream for you, why not grab a cape coat?
Celine Luggage Tote: I mean to each his own and all, but I just understand the fascination with this bag. It’s kind of an eyesore and if you look at it closely, it kind of looks like a face with a tongue sticking out (Focus on the zipper. See what I mean?). This bag is enormous, but people insist on carrying it around everywhere, like even out at night even though we all know you should carry a clutch when you’re going formal. And honestly, even if it were the most beautiful bag in the world, why would you want something everyone else has? Unlike a classic Chanel, this bag is very distinctive. I predict most people who love it now will deeply regret dropping thousands on it soon enough.
Weird sunglasses: Look, I love a distinctive pair of shades but I would rather just get one perfect pair that will compliment any outfit rather than a bunch of cray cray sunnies that act as statements. Sunglasses should flatter your face, not upstage it.
Superga sneakers: Considering they’re generally a stilletto-loving set, fashion bloggers seem to really love these (IMHO) unremarkable sneaks. There’s nothing wrong with them, but I just don’t think they’re anything special. I’d rather some cute oxfords or something.
Birkenstocks: Yuck.
