If walking up and down the aisles of a used bookstore is your favorite way to spend a Sunday. If you love cracking open the binding of a new journal, knowing soon it will be filled with loopy cursive, scratchy scribbles and haphazard cross-outs. If a stack of pens and a full cup of coffee are all you need to bring worlds and characters and scenes alive… Then you’re probably one of us.
Pull up an overstuffed chair and prop your laptop up on your knees — I’ve got something to share with you. About a month ago, I started to hear buzz about a new site out there for writers and readers called Medium. It’s a place largely free of listicles and GIFs, focusing more on long-format pieces and personal essays. Since setting both myself and CollegeCandy up with accounts (because I’m a sucker for an aesthetically pleasing site, and Medium knocks it out of the park), I’ve gotten lost among the amazing writers who have started to colonize the landscape. Whether you want to read about the plights of the twenty-something, learn about microbrews or participate in Medium’s writing prompt of the week, there’s a niche for everyone.
We’ve already started posting some incredible essays on CollegeCandy’s page, so head over and take a look! Let us know if you start an account by tweeting your writing @CollegeCandy — soon we’ll start posting our favorite Medium essays right here on CC (giving you credit and a link back to your page, of course).
So come on! Join us on Medium as we get back to basics. It’s not about going viral or getting clicks. We just want to hang out with people who like writing and reading as much as we do.
