Games of Thrones is undeniably a show that has a lot going on plot-wise. And while it’s seldom true to life, but it’s one hell of a ride.
Despite GOT’s Medieval setting, there’s something strangely modern about the beauty looks displayed onscreen. We’ve discussed here that things seem to be trending away from the perfectly made-up face and precise hair that used to reign to something more effortless and natural. The ladies on GOT look even more natural and pure than today’s tastemakers – they bypass that and look as clean and stark as high-fashion runway models at avant grade shows.
You can totally make this look work in your own life, albeit in a way that’s a bit less severe. It’s all about embracing a few key products.
Tinted Moisturizer: If there’s one thing you notice about the GOT ladies, it’s this — They have the most flawlessly smooth, even-toned skin around. There’s never a hint of cakiness and they have bright, lit-from-within complexions. The key to getting this IRL is with tinted moisturizer. This stuff is so key. It’ll keep your skin smooth and hydrated while giving you a subtle sheen and evening out your tone completely. This is great for ladies who like a slightly dewy look and it’s perfect for the summer.
Clear mascara: Have you ever noticed how, even though the GOT girls never seem to be wearing eye makeup, their eyes stand out? The answer is in the lashes – but rather than clump on the black stuff, opt for a clear lash enchanter. This will give you great definition and, if you start off by curler your lashes, it will hold the lift. It’s a great way to make your eyes look wider and more alert without making it obvious that you’re wearing product.
Brow pencil: Thick, defined brows frame the faces of the show’s characters and I believe that’s why they never look colorless. Using a brow pencil to darken and define yours is a great way to avoid that washed out look that comes when you try to achieve the natural look. Simply choose a shade that’s a bit darker than your brows and fill them in so they look bold and intense.
Lip stain: Again, it’s easy to start looking washed out when you’re going for the natural look. A lip stain in a shade that’s just slightly darker than your natural lip tone will help combat this. The texture of a stain is flat, making it a more natural-looking option than a stick or a gloss. Opt for a MLBB (my lips but better) shade that will make your pout look extra pink. I’m obsessed with this product.
Straightening iron: The best thing about this product? You probably already own it. The trick is to use it differently – instead of pulling it straight up and down your hair, bend your wrist a bit while pulling down on your strands. Play around with it – the key is to give your hair imperfect texture and a bit of bend. There’s no exact technique that will work for everyone; it’s just a matter of figuring out which movement will give you the kind of bend that best resembles the tousled locks you see on the show.
