Let’s get some things straight. Not all blogs were created equally. Ever since Tumblr made it easy for 12-year-olds to aggregate pictures of dog shit and call it a blog, finding a good blog is like finding where LeBron James’ forehead ends and his scalp begins. Luckily, there’s Bosley for him and really good blogs floating around waiting to be discovered for us.
Nine times out of ten, you’re spending those unguided hours on the computer scrolling through “artsy” pictures and taking quizzes that have nothing to do with real life on BuzzFeed anyway. Why not expand your blog horizons by checking out these five amazing sites the next time you’re wandering aimlessly on the net?
As news consumption continues to shift from print to digital, keep The Onion on your list of go-to sites for being in the know. Make sure, however, that you have another news source as back up because you’ll quickly discover that there’s a bit of a quirk with this site. There’s a sense of humor in The Onion’s news due to the fact that most of what they cover isn’t actually newsworthy at all. It takes a minute to figure it out because the site looks legit— they cover business, politics, science and sports, even local coverage, but a quick skim through their headlines (particularly under the local tab) shows that this is a huge troll.
Still not convinced? Look at the weather forecast in the top left corner of their homepage.
Betches Love This is like a written version of MTV2’s Girl Code. It covers everything from celebrity news to food, to fashion to guys, all in a crude, slightly insulting manner that girls are known for talking to each other in. It also provides a refreshingly honest opinion of what’s going on. Take a recent article of theirs called Tori Spelling Sucks, for example. We all know Tori Spelling and her ridiculous life annoy the hell out of us, but Betches Love This articulated why she’s so annoying so well that it deserves a standing ovation.
You’ve also got the opportunity to become a “betch” with the “We The Betches” section, where you can create your own profile and submit things.
CollegeHumor is an assortment of original video, pictures, and articles that’ll make you feel quite all right for watching cats do stupid things for an hour. This blog is chock full of totally weird and unashamedly childish things like these pictures of men with Zooey Deschanel’s eyes. Having a rough day or just feeling a little sluggish? Jump on CollegeHumor for a pick me up.
Fun fact: Fifteen minutes of laughing a day can burn up to 40 calories, which is even more of an excuse to hop on this blog.
Have you ever read a fashion blog and instantly felt stupid for not seeing the “ultra chic”-ness of unreasonable runway looks or for not knowing the names for different designs? WhoWhatWear is nothing like that. Its content proves that its writers know what they’re talking about when it comes to style, but the way they present it isn’t pretentious or sentimentalized. WhoWhatWear makes fashion enjoyable for everyone.
