Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale, who plays Aria, dished on her Fifty Shades of Grey audition, music career but more interestingly on what is’ like to be on show that maybe about murder mysteries but also is about looking pretty.
Lucy said: “[Pretty Little Liars] is about how we look too. That’s terrifying sometimes because you’re breaking out or you feel gross and you still have to be in front of the camera. We’ll post pictures on Instagram and people will be like, ‘Y’all are so flawless.’ Little do they know it’s fake hair, fake eyelashes, and a good filter. Little girls see that and think they have to be like that.”
Can you imagine always having to look immaculate? Like, actually, tho. Actors don’t sign up to be on Big Brother, they sign up to tell stories, to be a part of a production, to act. Our obsession with celebs (that I am totally guilty of too) must make it soooooo difficult to stay grounded. How can you be normal when there are thousands of comments online about how you didn’t put enough concealer on that zit that one day?
I have major empathy for the Little Liars considering how members of the cast, Troian Bellisario, Shay Mitchell and Lucy herself, have revealed their struggles with eating disorders. The need to look “pretty” or be presentable all the time at best is exhausting but at worse can be painful. It’s one thing to have to dress up for the red carpet, it’s another for people to expect stars to look stunning after coming out of the gym or on their way to Starbucks.
