Taylor Swift has a way of being flawless. She seems unfazed by any of the shade that gets thrown her way. What I like about Taylor Swift, and I am not even sure if I actually like Taylor Swift so much as I like a lot of stuff about her, is that she is a woman, the same age as me, who is completely in control of her art, her life and her integrity. She makes music with other women in mind, she is a girl who plays the guitar, she’s not afraid to call a guy a douche when he is being a douche and I genuinely appreciate that.
I don’t hate pop stars like Katy Perry or Rihanna who have teams of writers making their music and teams of PR moguls constructing their image, I believe that’s an alternative way of being a performer and it isn’t much different than being an actor—they don’t write, produce or direct their own movies for the most part but when they do it is a huge feat. Nevertheless, I am glad someone is occupying the mainstream space that Taylor is (even if some of her lyrics are slut or gay shaming I can assume she has grown up from that) because while there are plenty of women who have built empires off of their looks (and that’s fine) there aren’t enough ladies building empires around their talent and ability.
