Hermioneeeee. Uuuugh. ICYMI over the weekend there were two more “fappenings” or rather Reddit/4Chan leaks of celebrity nude photos. On Saturday Emma Watson delivered a speech about gender equality at the United Nations headquarters to promote a new campaign HeForShe.
Because Emma Watson spoke out as a feminist, 4Chan is now threatening to leak her nude photos. Whether they go through with the threat or not is besides the point. 4Chan is using fear mongering tactics to police the bodies and freedoms of women.
Threatening to violate a woman’s rights for speaking out about . . . how women’s rights are violated or speaking at all is a tactic to prevent other women from voicing their views. How many times in your life have you wanted to say something when you felt uncomfortable or like something was wrong but didn’t so that you wouldn’t cause a “fuss”?
The fact that whenever a woman so much as opens her mouth to express an opinion an army of fuckheads arrive out of the woodwork to shame and abuse her isn’t exactly encouraging for women to stand up for themselves. 4Chan is attempting to make an “example” out of Emma Watson by punishing her for identifying as a feminist.
