Did you love The Heat, but thought it needed more Sofia Vergara? Then you’re in luck, because the best part of Modern Family is teaming up to make a buddy cop comedy (the fact that her character is a witness and not another cop is a mere technicality) with Reese Witherspoon. It’s The Heat down to the sassy half of the team being confounded and horrified by the straight man’s underwear (here it’s granny-panties instead of Spanx), but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Pairing a strong dramatic actress with comedy chops with a straight up comedian has worked in the past. And that is a solid period joke at the end.
