California, here we come – like most of our favorite pop culture phenoms (think Legally Blonde, Cruel Intentions and Clueless) The OC is officially getting the musical treatment. Basically? This is so much better than Chrismukkah.
The show won’t be hitting Broadway, but it will be showing in LA for one night only on August 30 – and who knows? Maybe if we beg the creators hard enough, they’ll make our California dreams come true and extend the run.
Here’s what we know so far: The musical is coming courtesy of the same team that brought us the so-hot-right-now musical adaption of Cruel Intentions, which runs in LA right now.
The Cruel Intentions musical features 90s songs like “Bittersweet Symphony,” “Kiss Me,” and “Bitch” so we’re guessing that’s musical will also feature pre-existing music (unless they decide to go for it and write an original score for the musical…I honestly don’t know which scenario would be better.) My guess? We’ll be hearing at least one Death Cab For Cutie song, a Marisa-and-Ryan duet to “Hallelujah,” and a full-cast jam to the show’s theme song.
So now that we have all the relevant info, let’s do what any respectable OC fan would do. Commence freak out in 3, 2, 1….
