If there is one thing we love about our beauty routine, it’s the fact that we can DIY a regimen with products found around our home, or even our dorm room. Take, for example, an avocado. You’ve heard they’re good for your health, but did you know they’re just as good when topically applied? The benefits of this fruit are endless, so if you can’t DIY your own avocado-based beauty regimen, then shop around for products that include the superfruit.
Here are our favorite avocado beauty hacks:
1. Face Mask
Throw in “Avocado Face Mask” into Pinterest and the variations of this beauty hack are endless. To help fight blemishes and soften skin, though, you really only need two key ingredients: avocado and honey. Mix 1 tablespoon of honey with a 1/4 ripe avocado and apply to your face in a circular motion, letting sit for about 15 minutes. When times up, just wipe it off and rinse.
2. Lip Scrub
Succumb to parched lips with an avocado lip scrub! It’s as easy as combining 1 teaspoon of raw avocado oil with 1 teaspoon of brown sugar to cure those cracked lips. Smother the scrub over your pucker then gently wipe it away with a tissue. Want something a bit more long-lasting? Try this Chocolate Avocado Lip Balm. All you need is white beeswax, coconut oil, avocado oil, Vitamin E oil, mango butter, chocolate candy wafers and a few minutes of your time.
3. Eye Treatment
No reason to shed tears when you try to moisturize your eyes, and that’s why we recommend this all natural Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado by KIEHL’s. With ingredients like avocado oil, a natural source of amino acids, Vitamins A, D, E and potassium, beta-carotene and Shea butter, this eye treatment will have your sun-kissed face feeling revitalized in no time.
5. Hair Mask
When even the best-of-the-best hair treatments don’t work, try a simple avocado hair mask or deep conditioner. This beauty hack contains tons of biotin (avocado–halved), which promotes hair growth, and is combined with egg yolk (2), honey (1 tablespoon) and olive oil (1 tablespoon) to leave your hair feeling lustrous and healthy. Suffering from dandruff? Combat it by adding some lemon to the recipe.
6. Hair Serum
Not only will you rid yourself of dead ends and frizzy hair with this DIY concoction, but you’ll save yourself a buck or two in the process. Whisk together Jojoba, avocado and Vitamin E oil for a hair serum that’ll leave your hair tamed even in this heat.
7. Hand Lotion
At first thought, you might not consider a hand lotion made from avocados, but when your Bath and Body Works lotion repeatedly fails you, it’s time to turn to this beauty hack. Hand lotions can differ between texture, as well as ingredients. For beginners, start with a 3/4 cup of avocado oil, 3 tablespoons of beeswax and a 3/4 cup of herbal tea or water.
8. Avocado Soap
Suffering from sun-damaged skin? Polish up with a DIY avocado soap by smashing up avocado oil, palm oil, palm kernel oil, sweet almond oil, rosemary oleoresin extract, lye, mineral water and avocado puree. Because the avocado content is so high in this homemade soap, the end result is absolutely magical. It leaves your hands feeling super soft and silky.
