Regal Cinemas has begun bulking up their security after recent theater shootings. The Regal Entertainment Group has stated,
Security issues have become a daily part of our lives in America. To ensure the safety of our guests and employees, backpacks and bags of any kind are subject to inspection prior to admission. We acknowledge that this procedure can cause some inconvenience and that it is not without flaws, but hope these are minor in comparison to increased safety.
Just last month, a gunman opened fire during a screening of Trainwreck in Louisiana which resulted in the death of two people in addition to the gunman’s suicide. Hopefully policies like this will comfort people who have become fearful of heading to the movies and keep theatergoers safe.
It is unclear if this recent change in security could result in higher ticket prices. Even so, Variety found that most moviegoers don’t mind a small price hike as long as they don’t have to worry about feeling unsafe while they’re out having a good time. I’m with them – no one should have to feel on edge while they’re out with their friends and family and if a few extra bucks can make that happen, I’m all for it.
