Sad news this morning: Late Thursday night, a shooting occurred on Savannah State University campus in Georgia, leaving one student dead.
Christopher Starks, a junior at the school from the metropolitan Atlanta area, died at a local hospital from gunshot wounds after an altercation at the Student Union building on Thursday evening, the university said in a statement.
A post on the university’s Facebook page Thursday night said that the campus was on lockdown “due to a shooting incident that occurred this evening at/near the Student Union.”
The lockdown was lifted just after midnight as the college newspaper, The Tiger’s Roar, reported that there was blood on the floor in the Student Union and police were spread out all over the campus, looking for a male suspect. No arrests have been made.
What a tragic start to the school year. Savannah State University and Christopher Starks’ family are in our thoughts today.
