Last night wasn’t my first encounter with MS MR. In fact, it wasn’t my first encounter with MS MR at Terminal 5.
Just one month shy of three years ago, I got on one of the first trains back into New York City after Hurricane Sandy demolished New Jersey and New York less than a week before. Two friends and I had tickets for a Grouplove concert that we had ordered months ago, and we didn’t think we were going to make the show. As soon as we heard trains were running into the city again, we knew we couldn’t miss it. After five days of no power, hearing about friends who lost their houses, and all kinds of unbelievable tragedy, I needed an escape for just a few hours.
The concert was just the pick-me-up I hoped for. MS MR opened for Grouplove that night and I’ve had my eye on them ever since.
It was the same venue, but a lot has changed for Lizzy Plapinger and Max Hershenow in the past three years. This time around, they were headlining their How Does It Feel Tour instead of opening, and they brought the energy a crowd would expect from a headliner on a Thursday night. How such stunning vocals came out of two dancing maniacs I will never understand.
Plapinger also knew it was their moment to shine. After each song, she seemed overwhelmed by the cheers they were met with, casting a contagious smile. It’s so easy to have fun at a show when an artist is clearly making the most of the moment, and the crowd was definitely working off that energy and sending it all back.

PS – Lizzy, I need your glittery jumpsuit.
