If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.
In Apple’s quest to make the iPhone even thinner, the company is looking to remove that precious 3.5mm headphone jack from next year’s iPhone 7. By doing this, the new iPhone would require an adapter to use your own headphones. This is clearly a move by Apple to foster a market for Lightning-only accessories.
According to the blog MacOtakara, Apple is looking to specifically slim the next iPhone down by one millimeter. Achieving this goal would leave little room for the current headphone jack. In addition, this forces iPhone users to switch to products that use Apple’s Lightning connector only.
In short? Those fancy headphones you just bought last weekend are going to be rendered inert should you so choose to purchase the iPhone 7. Many blogs have already pointed out that this new USB Lightning port will complicate listening to music and charging your phone.
If you ask me, we don’t need a thinner iPhone – we need a smaller iPhone. While I love my iPhone 6 to death, it’s too wide for a cell phone. The iPhone 5 model was the perfect size, frankly.
Regardless about the complaints made and concerns raised by consumers about Apple’s changes, even if this change occurs, we’re all still going to buy the next iPhone. I’ll see you on-line next year with a large grimace across my face.
