13-Year-Old Allegedly Threatened School Shooting For More Instagram Followers

What kind of world are we living in when 13-year-old children are making shooting threats to gain Instagram followers?
According to theĀ Dallas Morning News, a 13-year-old middle school student in Dallas, Texas, has been detained for supposedly posting a threatening photos on Instagram. She could face two to 10 years in prison and a fine of $10,000 if she is convicted for making a terroristic threat against her school.
The now-removed Instagram post featured an unidentified man holding a gun. The caption read “Everybody at T.W. Browne Middle School is gonna die. I’m going to kill everybody, even 6th and 7th graders.” The photo allegedly also said that eighth graders would be targeted at a different time on the same day.
Dallas Independent School District PoliceĀ stated that the 13-year-old posted the photo in an attempt to gain more Instagram followers.
T.W. Browne Middle School was not placed on lockdown on Tuesday when the threat was brought to the police’s attention. The school assured parents that they were taking the threat seriously, but some were not satisfied with that statement and pulled their children out of class.
The police chief of the Dallas Independent School District, Craig Miller, stated that the police would not tolerate threats like this and would continue to keep kids safe. He concluded his statement by saying, “Every single day a kid is not in school, they are missing an opportunity to learn.”
