Gwen Stefani is now opening up about what led to the breakdown of her 13 year marriage to Gavin Rossdale. The two announced their divorce back in August 2015.
In an interview with CBS’ Sunday Morning, Stefani said, “at that time, everything was like I had no skin, it was so raw. Nobody knew what was happening, and I had this big secret.”
“During that time period I felt like I was down all the way, like, you don’t go down lower than that. It was rock bottom. I was so embarrassed…” Stefani said.
The singer clarified to Time why she has chosen to remain silent. She said, “I don’t feel like I have anything to be ashamed of. I’ve done nothing wrong. I don’t feel like I have anything to protect about myself. But when you’re a mother, you have to have some boundaries.”
The 46-year-old singer has kept many of the details of her divorce from Rossdale a secret. She did, however, tell the New York Times that it is “a really good, juicy story.”
Stefani has three sons with Rossdale.
A source confirmed to People in 2015 that Stefani had discovered Rossdale having an ongoing affair with the children’s nanny.
According to ABC News, Stefani made an unexpected return to her solo career after her split from Rossdale in order to deal with the heartbreak. She released her new album, This Is What The Truth Feels Like, on Friday.
