An otherwise normal video clip from Danish TV2 sport went viral thanks to a “mystery girl” who completely vanished in front of the cameras. Even the girl herself cannot say for sure what happened.
The video clip was taken from an interview with the coach for Denmark’s women’s national handball team, Klavs Bruun Jørgensen. The woman disappears out of shot after another woman obscures her from view. The footage was broadcasted live and there is no evidence that indicates that it was edited.
The clip first surfaced on Monday. The Internet community came together in an attempt to solve the puzzling disappearance. The video was posted on Imgur and managed to gather over 9 million views and garnered nearly 1,500 comments on Reddit by the weekend.
The most popular theory is that there was another woman who obscured the girl as they both moved out of the shot. Other people, however, are more eager to suggest supernatural explanations, referring to The Matrix, X-Files and even Harry Potter.
The disappearing woman, spoiling the Internet’s fun, has been identified as Trine Nielsen. Nielsen is a Danish handball player and a TV2 commentator. She said, “My own belief is that I’m fast like a ninja. But it’s more probably that I was just lucky.”
Don’t ruin our fun, Nielsen! There’s no possible way you could have moved that fast on live television – handball player or not!
