When I first heard my boyfriend’s Irish accent, I swooned where I stood. Accents are exciting and new, and can be totally foreign or slightly familiar. An adorable accent heard across the room just draws you to a person- it’s practically lust at first sight. A foreign accent might be really rare for the area in which you live, so naturally, you’ll find yourself attracted to the mysterious speaker. Here are the five reasons every girl should date a guy with an accent.
1. He’s Exotic and New
The first time you hear his voice and the adorable way he greets you, you’re reminded that he’s from somewhere totally new and outside of your comfort zone. Hearing him speak will transport you to a completely different and unfamiliar place, just like an adventure.
2. He’s Different From Any Guy You’ve Met Before
This guy is different from all of your exes. He’s from somewhere foreign and has a rich cultural history he can’t wait to share with you. You’ll never confuse him with your ex because he sounds totally different! Accents are really memorable, so chances are you’ll be dreaming about his for years to come.
3. You Get to Learn About Where They Come From
Perhaps the most interesting part about a guy with an accent is that their background is probably so different from your own. After travelling from his homeland to a new place, he’s ready to talk about the cultural differences between your home and his. Not only do you get to learn about his background, you get someone to share yours with, too.
4. He’s Intelligent
If your man with the dreamy accent is from a non-English speaking country, you picked up a smart guy. Speaking more than one language is highly indicative of intelligence, as they’re able to speak natively and converse with you too. Give this guy props, he’s both hardworking and super smart.

When someone speaks with a foreign accent, whether it’s British or something non-English, everyone notices. Your man will obviously stand out in a crowd, drawing all sorts of people to him. If the chemistry is right and he notices you too, you can be proud and confident in showing him off.
