A young child’s heartbreaking Christmas letter to their dead dad has the internet in tears after it was found tied to a balloon in a field in Dunfermline, Fife. Written on January 1, 2016, the child described how much he missed his father since his death and asked if he was safe up in heaven.
“Hi dad, just writing you a letter to tell you I’m missing you and tell you news!” the letter begins. “I’m sure you know I’m in foster [care] cause mom is sick and my ear is blocked from Monday. Tomorrow we’re leaving. I really miss school and you, I know [you] are up in heaven but are you safe?”
The note continued, “Oh ya before I go here’s my dream and xmas list. My dream is for you my daddy to put under my pillow a note that you wrote. My xmas list: boots/studs, Astros, rebounder net, new Premier League ball, Real Madrid jersey and shorts, and Rubik cube. Bye daddy I love you.”

According to the Dunfermline Press, the man who found the letter, Stuart McColl, said that the note was “just too sad to ignore.” Now he (along with the rest of social media) is determined to find the child who wrote he letter.
“It’s a bit of an ambitious thing to do but the story seems to have touched quite a few people already,” he told the publication. “It really is the dream to find the person who wrote this note. It’s quite a unique story so hopefully someone knows something.”
The letter has since been shared on Twitter and has gotten over 5,000 retweets and 5,000 favorites.

Hopefully they find the child and the wishes are granted. Now excuse us while we go cry into a cup of coffee.
