Fill Your National Mason Jar Day With These Funny Tweets, Memes & Photos

Who says practicality can’t be cute?

It’s National Mason Jar Day! And even though those crafty mason jar ideas on Pinterest are made fun of all the time, mason jars are actually really practical. Eating and storing food in glass instead of plastic is better for your health overall because of the added chemicals in plastic and of course, reusing glass instead of throwing out plastic is much better for the environment.

The mason jar was invented by John Landis Mason all the way back in 1858 for food preservation. They were able to store food for longer because of the better seal than the typical cork and wax methods originally used. It was a revolutionary for cooks who were able to store food for months at a time, but since the invention of refrigerators and freezers, mason jars fell off the radar. But they’re back, and typically associated with “hipsters” considering they’re a trending topic on blogs. You can make mason jar candles, homemade meals, use them as a water bottle or even as pots for flowers.

But although I personally find them useful and they have become an increasingly popular alternative to plastic tupperware, many people find them stupid as illustrated by everyone voicing their opinion on Twitter. So celebrate today by investing in some mason jars and enjoying some of these amusing memes and tweets!

What do you think? Are mason jars cool or stupid?
