Kanye West Lost Over 9 Million Followers After He Tweets His Support For Trump

Kanye West is back on Twitter and it has been a whirlwind. At first, his tweets were just about new Yeezy products and philosophical insights. He had a few political tweets pepper in, but now he has waded into deep political waters.

West’s philosophical tweets about being a free thinker parlayed into his support of Trump because Trump is a disrupter in the political world.

Then he tweeted a photo of himself wearing a Make American Great Again hat. The man in the middle, Lyor Cohen is doing an alt-right white supremacist hand sign.

Since West posted the photos of him in a MAGA hat he has lost over nine million followers. He supposedly started the day with 27.8 million followers, but after his Trump tweets, he dropped to 18.6 million. As of publishing, he has 18.7 million followers. Based on his Social Blade, West loses an average of 339,746 followers daily.

According to Twitter account @PopCrave, which documents pop culture in real time, West lost the initial 9.2 million followers within 10 minutes of posting his MAGA tweets.

Trump himself quote retweeted one of West’s tweets saying thank you. He also quote tweeted Kanye’s MAGA tweet.

Kim Kardashian jumped in and voiced her opinion on her husband’s recent pro-Trump tweets. She criticized the media for saying he is mentally unstable based on his Twitter behavior. Kardashian defended West’s tweets about Trump.

Kardashian is more liberal when it comes to her politics. During the presidential election, she voiced her support for Hillary Clinton. On her reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, her sisters and she went to a Planned Parenthood to learn and support the non-profit.

In her tweet she reiterates that West has never said he supports Trump’s politics. A sentiment that West has also tweeted. He wrote that Kardashian even told him to make it clear that he doesn’t agree with Trump’s politics, he only agrees with himself.

This isn’t the first time West has spoken about Trump. In 2016 during his San Jose show on his Saint Pablo Tour, West went on a rant about Trump. His monologue lasted 25 minutes and was filled with pro-Trump rhetoric.

“[Voting for Trump] don’t mean that I don’t think that black lives matter; that don’t mean I don’t believe in women’s rights; that don’t mean that I don’t believe in gay marriage, that don’t mean I don’t believe in these things because that was the guy I would’ve voted for.”

He also said he didn’t vote for Trump, but if he voted he would have.

Shortly after his San Jose show, he met up with Trump in New York City. West said that they met to discuss “multicultural issues.”

Before his Trump tweets, West tweeted his support for Candace Owens and Scott Adams. Afterward, he talked to Ebro Darden, a host for Hot 97. Darden said that West kept repeating that he loves Trump.

Update

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed to Uproxx that West didn’t lose over nine million followers after his Trump tweets. They said the sharp decrease in followers was a glitch.

“We can confirm that [West’s] follower count is currently at approximately 27M followers. Any fluctuation that people might be seeing is an inconsistency and should be resolved soon”

Even though the followers glitched, people are unfollowing West for his tweets even celebrities. So far Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, Drake, Jaden Smith, Kendrick Lama, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and many others have hit the unfollow button.

Many celebrities have spoken out about West’s tweets like John Legend, Snoop Dogg and Chance the Rapper.
