The empty seat next to Prince William inside St. George’s Chapel during the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was rumored to be in memory of their late mother, Princess Diana.
But in fact, it was for a completely different reason.

The seat was kept empty so Queen Elizabeth had a clear view of the proceedings from the second row, according to People Magazine.
Harry and Meghan instead found another way to honor the People’s Princess during their intimate ceremony.

They used a lavish floral arrangement as a tribute to Diana.
Alongside floral designer Philippa Craddock, the couple paid tribute to Princess Diana, who died in 1996, in creating the unique display.
The arrangement was filled with branches of beech, birch, and hornbeam, as well as peonies, foxgloves, and one of Diana’s favorite flowers — white garden roses, according to People.
Meghan’s ethereal bridal bouquet also had a personal touch.

Some of the flowers included in it were handpicked by her then husband-to-be Harry.
People reported that he picked several flowers from the couple’s private garden to insert into her bouquet.
The bouquet also included Forget-Me-Nots, Diana’s favorite flowers.
According to the palace, the use of the Forget-Me-Nots was intentional to honor Diana’s memory on the couple’s wedding day.
