Today is Laurie Hernandez’s 18th Birthday. You may know her as American artistic gymnast who won our hearts during the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics as a member of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team–she won gold in the team event and silver on the balance beam. She was also the first Latina Olympic Gymnast in 30 years. She has kept busy since the 2016 Summer Olympics, winning season 23 of Dancing with the Stars with partner Val Chmerkovskiy, appearing on several TV shows, and creating a new clothing line among much more. Dancing With The Stars

In 2016, Hernandez won season 23 of Dancing with the Stars with partner Val Chmerkovskiy. This was a major accomplishment as she became the youngest dancer to ever win the title at only 16-years-old. On DWTS she was able to live out her love of dance. This was only the beginning of her accomplishments since the Olympics.

Hernandez has made numerous TV appearances. She appeared on the Disney Channel TV show Stuck in the Middle as herself, Sesame Street as Herself, and she is set to appear on an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She has also appeared on numerous talk shows including Good Morning America, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, among many others.

Clothing Line

In early 2018, Hernandez launched a clothing line called Obsess with JCPenney which promotes body positivity for girls sizes seven to 20. She wants young girls to feel comfortable while going through puberty and not worry about what size they are. With phrases like “Shine“, “I Got This” and “This is Beautiful” on the clothes, her line is sure to inspire. We think that is pretty awesome, especially given the perfection that Hernandez has to strive towards as a competitive gymnast.

On October 31st, 2016 Hernandez announced her book called I Got This: To Gold and Beyond and it was released on January 24, 2017, and a week following it became a New York Times Bestseller. How amazing is that!

I Got This: To Gold and Beyond is about Hernandez growing up with the dream of becoming an Olympian and what she learned along the way to win the gold. She talks about her loving family, her training, sacrifices, and triumphs. Her story is an inspiration for all.

Hernandez announced on her Twitter account that she has a picture book coming out this fall on October 9th, 2018 called She’s Got This about a little girl who wants to be a gymnast. You can preorder the book here.

What is in store for Hernandez? Well her clothing line is still stronger than ever, with new releases. She has a mission to inspire and empower young women and she does so through social media posts, through public appearances, and advertisement campaigns. With a self-care and Time’s Up mindset, Hernandez is planning on returning for the 2020 Summer Olympics.
