Because of its amazing success at the box office, everyone is talking about the movie, Crazy Rich Asians starring Constance Wu, Henry Golding, and Awkwafina among others. It’s a win for diversity because there are hardly any movies targeted at general audiences featuring a mostly Asian cast, let alone a fun romantic comedy! Due to this success, director Jon M. Chu and screenwriters Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim are ready to return for a brand new sequel of the first movie!
Sources have said that Warner Brothers is in the process of developing a movie based on the second book of the best selling Crazy Rich Asians trilogy, China Rich Girlfriend! While the movie has not exactly been greenlit yet, it is currently in development. However, we’re not exactly nervous that the sequel won’t happen because while studios usually wait to officially announce a new movie, the immense success of the film makes it seem highly unlikely the studio shuts down this sequel idea.
Fans of the movie were head over heels because of the beautiful costuming, set design, and glamorous atmosphere the movie had, as well as the amazing actors and actresses in the movie. Asian audiences have praised the movie because the characters have three-dimensional storylines that stray far away from stereotypes and caricatures that western media has often used in movies. We love the news for a sequel for Crazy Rich Asians because we hope that this will inspire even more diversity in film and television!
If you were a fan of the ultra-glam and extravagant nature of the first movie, the second film is supposed to continue the main plot of the first movie, by continuing the exploration of insanely rich Asian families in Singapore, but will feature more exciting locations such as China, Shanghai, and even Paris! This film will also feature new characters, which we hope will be more lovable than the ones we know and love. We also have news that the director of the movie, as well as the screenwriters, are ready to come back and work on the project, which has us ready to believe that they are going to make this film even better than the last!
Director Jon Chu has said that this film may not come out for a bit, because of all of the other projects he is working on at the moment, including a film by Hamilton star and creator Lin Manuel Miranda! Nonetheless, we’re already wondering what more can come from this series!
