“How dare you not believe us?” These are the words from Ellen DeGeneres during an interview with the “Today” show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie that published on Thursday, October 4.
DeGeneres has spoken out against those who don’t believe survivors of sexual violence and she is “furious” at those who dare question people who share their stories.
During the interview, DeGeneres talked about her own experience as a survivor of sexual abuse and how it shaped her thoughts on Christine Basley Ford’s allegation.
“As a victim of sexual abuse, I am furious at people who don’t believe it,” she told Guthrie of Ford’s testimony during a pre-taped interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

DeGeneres explained that survivors of sexual abuse might not remember all the specifics of the attacks and slammed those who use that against them.
“You don’t remember those things. What you remember is what happened to you and where you were and how you feel. That’s what you remember,” she said in the show. “I think anybody who has gone through it, right now, is watching this so angry because you know, how dare you not believe us?”
As Today reported, DeGeneres spoke about her own assault on Wednesday, October 3 during a conversation with actress Busy Philipps at her own show.
“I was 15 and I had something happen to me. When I watched Dr. Ford–anyone who has had something happen to them, you just get so angry when someone doesn’t believe you or says, ‘Why did you wait so long?'” DeGeneres told Philipps.
“It’s because we’re girls and we’re taught not to say anything and go along with it,” she went on. “So you at 14, me at 15, God knows how many people in this audience have had something happen.”
According to the Daily Mail, the full interview between DeGeneres and Guthrie is scheduled to air on Friday, October 5.
“It was a very intense and unexpected conversation that Ellen and I had,” Guthrie said.
“We all know her and we know her light, fun, and airy side and this was a different side and she feels really strongly about it.”
