Mommy Blogger Faces Backlash For Saying Which Of Her Kids Is The Least Liked On Instagram

Instagram is notoriously the worst social media for your mental health. It contributes to depression, anxiety, FOMO, having unrealistic expectations and more. Even Chrissy Teigen complains about Instagram and how it affects her. But one would never suspect their mom to be the cause of their Instagram woes unless you’re Katie Bower.

Bower who runes @bowerpowerblog, is receiving criticism for her birthday post to her son Weston. In the post, she wrote that Weston is “statistically” the least liked out of all of her children. She goes on about how she believed her six-year-old deserves all the likes and begs her followers to like her birthday post.

“Guys I am gonna be perfectly honest…Instagram never liked my Munchkin and it killed me inside. His photos never got as many likes. Never got comments. From a statistical point of view, he wasn’t as popular with everyone out there,” Weston’s mom wrote about him on Instagram. “Maybe part of that was the pictures just never hit the algorithm right. Part might be because he was “the baby” for a very short amount of time before LJ came along…and then Max and then Ella. And people like babies. I say all that because I want to believe that it wasn’t him…that it was on me. My insufficiency caused this statistical deficit because obviously my Munch should get ALL the love and squinty eyes are totally adorable. ☺️ so can we do this right? Because I truly KNOW that my Munch deserves alllllll the likes…whether or not a stranger gives it to them.”

Since posting about her son being the statistically least liked on Instagram, Bower has received immense backlash. She updated her post to include a P.S. explaining why she pointed out Weston’s Instagram like statistics.

“I wanted to clarify that I revealed this feeling because I know one day he will see the numbers and have to learn that his value is not in online approval,” Bower stated. “This is a hard lesson for anyone to learn and I’m thankful I have learned it. I hope you all can be understanding and not take things out of context or believe that this in any way affects how I see or treat my children.”

The comments on the post aren’t just all well wishes to Weston. One user commented, “Why would you beg for likes so your child doesn’t lose his sense of self-worth….? That says a lot about you as a parent.”

Another user commented, “Why are you going to base your sons happiness on ‘likes‘?! I say your own insecurities are showing.”

Her post has made it’s way to Twitter inciting more criticism.

Bower has four boys, Will, Weston, LJ and Maxwell and one girl, Ella. She was also heavily criticized in September of this year for not realizing that people died in the 9/11 attacks. She only recently realized hundreds of people died in the attacks.

What is worse, being a grown adult not knowing people died in 9/11? Or begging your followers to like your 6-year-old’s Instagram post after pointing out that he’s statistically unpopular?

Update

Bower has since deleted her birthday post for Weston amidst the backlash. You can see the screenshot of the post below.
