News broke that Cardi B is trademarking her signature catchphrase, “Okurrr.” The filing was done under Cardi’s company Washpoppin, Inc. on March 11. Okurrr is being trademarked and used for “paper goods, namely paper cups and posters,” according to the filing.
She filed for okurr, with only two R’s, on February 25. This spelling is being used for “clothing, namely T-shirts, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, pants, shorts, jackets, footwear, headgear, namely, hats and caps, blouses, bodysuits, dresses, jumpsuits, leggings, skirts, sweaters, undergarments.”
Cardi received some backlash for trademarking the word. No, Cardi didn’t invent okurrr but she did put it on the map.
The Grammy-winning rapper addressed the backlash on a now-deleted Instagram video. Basically, she told her haters that she is going to get her bag no matter what.
“Wait, wait wait, so you hoes is made that I trademarked okurr? Let me tell you something, every single time I go to a corporate meeting these folks be like ‘Oh my God I can’t wait to hear you say okurr.’ Every time I go to a TV show, ‘Hey, hey, can you teach me how to say okurr.’ Every time I go do a commercial, ‘Hey can you finish it off with okurr?'” Cardi said.

“You think I ain’t going to profit off this shit? She also tweeted, “I handle business PERIOD! If you don’t have no business don’t tell me how to handle mines!”
Cardi followed that up with another tweet, “Learn how to play in the world we live in;$”
