Only 5 seconds of summer can shine bright like a diamond, in a drab grotto. After their catchy collaboration “Who do you love” with The Chainsmokers last month, 5SOS has officially returned with a New Wave single “Easier,” — nearly 10 years after their evergreen pop-punk hit, “Youngblood.” The Australian boy band teased their Instagram followers two days ago with spooky, negative-tone images.

“Easier” hit Youtube today and garnered half a million views in only three hours. And of course, fans have been losing it. One fan tweeted, “THEY ARE ALL SO STUNNING I’M SCREAMING!”

It’s true, “Easier” is everything to freak out about.
Lead singer, Luke Hemming’s soulful voice complements the striking lyrics, “Is it easier to stay? It Is easier to go? I don’t know..” Centered around toxic relationships, the dramatic video disquietingly performs echoing beats with exotically murky visuals. The video starts with the four members, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings, and Ashton Irwin, chained to the ceiling of a dark, blue-light cavern. The muse, fire and gyrating — all take the audience on an emotional roller coaster that ends with Luke Hemmings, walking down a hallway as large images of each singer burn in flames. (It’s how most toxic relationships end anyway, right?)
The band told Rolling Stone that they were inspired by dark, synth-heavy groups of the Eighties and Nineties like Depeche Mode and Tears for Fears and, particularly, Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer.”

And more good news: this song is only an appetizer for their fourth album, which they will release after their tour with The Chainsmokers this September.
As we wait for that wild record, hop on Youtube and watch the full video above! You’re in for a ride.
