The Mink, 3D Portable Makeup Printer, Creates Makeup On Demand

The Mink, the world’s first-ever 3D portable makeup printer is revolutionizing the beauty market. This intricate device can instantly transform any image that one creates with their own cosmetics into wearable makeup with just a press of a button all at the convenience of their homes, cars, etc.

CEO and co-founder Grace Choi and her team first introduced the Mink printer concept in 2014 but since then have worked rigorously to refine every detail and get it to their standards. Choi released a statement in a press release that the idea itself initially stemmed from our generation’s obsession with all things digital. She added, ‘Beauty content continues to move to digital and away from traditional TV and print. Users are turning to these images for inspiration, creating an opportunity to leverage image color data and transform them into physical makeup — I am thrilled to finally be sharing the Mink experience with everyone.’

The Mink printer is extremely easy to use as well. Firstly, download the Mink app and import any image from the internet, camera roll or social media. Then choose to print either an entire image or one single color. Upon making a decision, insert a Mink makeup sheet into the tray and press send to print. After a cool 15 seconds, makeup is immediately ready to apply on a light and portable square sheet, making for a convenient way to create a touch-up kit on the go or to pack some color cosmetics when traveling. There’s even an option to print a grid or quad of colors to maximize the space on each piece of paper (which comes in matte as well as multiple, shimmery finishes). Choi remarks that the shelf life of the printed pigments can last about two weeks when kept covered in its original plastic film, which comes in handy so they don’t smudge anywhere either.

An impressive spec is well noted on the Mink printer as well. It is ultra-portable as the printer itself only weighs 2.2 lbs and has dimensions of only 8” x 6” x 4”. It is travel-friendly and can store with ease. The speed and range specs are to be commended as well. The Mink has the ability to print 16.7 million colors at 15 seconds per sheet, so creating any makeup shade imaginable is achievable.  The device even connects via WiFi with the Mink App (iOS and Android). And its safety is FDA approved ingredients. Certifications include FDA, cGMP, UL, UL-C, CE and FCC Part 15, Class B.

While the Mink holds the possibility to revolutionize the beauty (makeup) society, we’ll just have to wait and see. The market is still changing constantly to adapt to the digital age of this generation, therefore only time will tell. The printer will be launched for sale and available for pre-order for fall 2020 on minkbeauty.com, though quantities are limited. If you pre-order on the day of the launch, you can purchase the Mink printer for only $295, receiving a 25% discount off its actual price of $395.
