Men Are Finally Dipping Their Toes Into The Pedicure World

I am certainly that girlfriend who drags her boyfriend into the nail salon and forces him to get pedicures. The process usually goes a little something like this: I make a comment about how his feet need some major grooming, I suggest he comes for a pedicure with me, he, already annoyed, says “absolutely not”, I make fun of him for trying too hard to be “manly”, he reluctantly proves me wrong and comes for the pedicure, he gets the pedicure and exclaims “why don’t I do this more often??”. Repeat.

But now my boyfriend won’t be alone as more and more men are breaking through their manly shells and indulging in the heaven us women call “pedicures”. Even LeBron James, yes, LEBRON JAMES gets pedicures. I’d pay to see any guy tell Lebron James that pedicures are for women.

My nail salon has even recently added a “Male Pedicure” option to their menu, as I’ve definitely seen an increase in male customers. Gerard Quiroga, owner of Bellacures Nail Salon with six salons in Los Angeles and one in Dallas said, “This is likely that many will be wearing open-toed shoes, sandals, going to the beach, or on vacation where their feet will be exposed,” he continued, “Because men don’t come in as often as women, they do tend to opt for the callus repair pedicure and extra scrubs with sea salt or organic sugar.”

Kellen Marshall said this about pedicures: “It’s funny just to see the change in culture, how it’s become more socially acceptable. Guys are not afraid of their masculinity taking a hit when they get a pedicure. I think a big reason why guys are OK with it is because girls are pro-pedicure. They like guys who will take care of their skin, and take care of their feet.” I’m speaking on behalf of all women when I say this: Yaaaasss Kellen!!!

Pedicures aren’t the only self-care tactic men are finally getting around to doing. Society has recently seen a sharp increase in men tweeking their overall grooming habits. Some of my guy friends even have better eyebrows than me now — and I’m not really happy about it. Men have even began to dabble in the world of — wait for it — facemasks! Popular skincare company Yes To has even come out with a face mask that you and your boyfriend can do together! Now that’s my idea of a perfect date night.

The lesson for all men here is that it’s OK, no, it’s more than OK to get pedicures! If you decide to take the leap and go into a nail salon to experience the magic, you just might not be alone!
