Halloween is just around the corner and there are still many festivities to partake in. If you’re someone who loves all things spooky, then you’ll love these events even more!

1. 2nd Annual Halloween Lighthouse Boat Tour

The National Lighthouse Museum is hosting a Halloween Lighthouse Boat Tour and celebration. Guests will cruise up the East River through Hell’s Gate recalling haunted tales of lighthouses along the way and other points of spooky interest. Haunting river stories will be told on the way to Execution Rocks Light and guests will dance their way back down the river. There will be a DJ, a buffet dinner, raffles, awards for best maritime and creepy costumes and loads of fun! Get your tickets while it’s still early!

When: Sunday, October 27th. 3PM-7PM

2. Horror Musical with Puppets

All Hallows Eve is a wild, horror musical journey featuring live actors and giant puppets. The story follows twins, Eve and Evan who forcibly celebrate another desperately dull Halloween by their parents. Looking for some fun, they maraud, pumpkin-smash and toilet-paper, accidentally crossing the thin line between worlds on this spooky night. They enter a house and meet a demoness who has been waiting for children like them for a long time. The characters embark in a cat-and-mouse game with the prize being nothing less than their immortal souls. All Hallows Eve is a tale wrapped up in horror, comedy, and blood… and definitely not for young children. (Children aged 10 or older will be welcome). Watch the show before spooky season is over!

3. Spooky Pumpkin Garden

The New York Botanical Garden has transformed The Everett Children’s Adventure Garden into a Spooky Pumpkin Garden. On select nights in October, visitors can take part in special Halloween themed programming inside the garden such as pumpkin-carving demonstrations, pumpkin carving face-off, craft activities, and an Inspiration Station with chocolate treats. Visitors will also come face-to-face with mysterious skeletons, discover the secretive lives of creatures of the night including bats that live iin the Victorian Playhouse. They will also get to learn about fall plants, watch a skeleton puppet show, decorate gourds, collect treats, and be show off their best dance moves in the monster mash dance party! Don’t forget to bring a flashlight to explore the spooky paths throughout the garden!

4. Solve a Murder Mystery

Got some detective skills that you’d like to put to the test? Then solving a murder mystery at Mount Vernon sounds like the perfect thing for you to do! This interactive game is loosely based on an actual newspaper account of a mysterious skeleton discovered at the Mount Vernon Hotel. Who was killed? By whom? With what? Explore the Museum by candlelight and collect clues to unravel the mystery and solve the case. Collaborate with others or go it alone, and find out how quickly you can uncover the truth. Bring your whole family to see if you can figure out the case of the mysterious skeleton! (Appropriate for adults and families with children 8+)

5. Treasure Hunt, Costume Runway Show, and Movie Screening

At the United Palace, you can do a number of things for one small price. First, you get to go on a treasure hunt throughout the theater. Next, you get to show off your amazing costume as you strut your stuff across the stage. And lastly, watch a screening of The Goonies (1985) on the theater’s giant 50-foot screen. If you’ve never seen the classic it’s about a group of young misfits who call themselves The Goonies that discover an ancient map and set out on a quest to find a legendary pirate’s long-lost treasure.
