Growing Your Own Marijuana From Seeds

Growing marijuana is a rewarding and lucrative pastime. With many states now legalizing marijuana, people have the option of growing these plants from home. Those who have never attempted to grow marijuana need to learn as much as possible about how to get started and what to expect from the process.

What Does a Person Need to Start Growing Marijuana?

When people are searching online for marijuana seeds, they often come across a lot of information regarding growing tools. While some home growers have very complicated setups, there are only a few necessities when getting started. With a pot, growing medium, seeds, light, water, and nutrients, anyone can grow cannabis successfully.

Many people do not realize cannabis is fairly easy to grow. People often call marijuana weed because it grows like one. Remember, cannabis has grown for hundreds of years in the wild without any intervention or special tools from man.

Steps to Grow Marijuana From Seed

There are a few steps involved in growing marijuana at home, but none of them are overly difficult. In the beginning, people will likely find it easier to stick with one or two plants until they grow accustomed to the steps and what to expect from the following.

  • Choosing the right seeds is one of the most important actions. Growers can choose between Sativa and Indica, depending on their needs. There are also hybrid choices. New growers should purchase feminized seeds to ensure they do not grow any male plants.
  • While a person does not have to germinate their seeds, they will likely see greater success if they take this step. Mini greenhouses are ideal for seed germination. Sprouts usually occur within just a few days.
  • There are multiple types of growing mediums available. For beginners, it is best to choose soil because it is less difficult to work with and produces steady growth. The pot a grower chooses should be at least one gallon in size and have holes for drainage at the bottom.
  • Once plants germinate, growers can plant them into a pot filled with growing medium. The vegetative stage is when the marijuana plants gain the most bulk. During this phase of growth, the plants will require 16 hours of light with 8 hours of darkness.
  • The flowering stage of growth is when marijuana plants begin to bud. During this stage, the plants will need 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness. If a grower has chosen an autoflowerer, they will not need to adjust the light.
  • Growers can tell it is time to harvest their buds when the trichomes become a milky white color. If the trichomes are clear, it is still too early to harvest.
  • Next, people will need to dry and cure their buds. It takes one to two weeks for the buds to dry thoroughly. Drying the marijuana buds on racks will help to ensure no mold develops in the process.

The Steps Above Produce Bountiful Buds

With the best marijuana seeds will come the very healthiest plants. Those who are new to growing marijuana should research their options and ensure they are choosing healthy seeds that have a sound genetic background.

Growing marijuana from seed is not overly difficult but it does take a concerted effort. By following the steps above, new growers will find it possible to grow bountiful buds that are full of heady aromas.
