Sexy Time: 5 Sex Facts That Will Scare the Ish Out of You

Two days ago, I went to my university’s health center. Now, usually I completely disregard any information I get at the health center on the grounds of either A) I have heard that every year since I first took sex ed in 7th grade, or B) Those 'doctors' are full of ish. But this time, by the luck of the draw, I happened to get a check-up from someone that (gasp!) actually knew what they were talking about.

Sexy Time: Sexually (In)active?

Last week I went to my university’s health center for a birth control pill issue. As soon as Dr. Nancy scurried in with her Lisa Frank name tag and orthopedic shoes, I knew that this was going to be trouble. I answered the routine questions and then braced myself for what was next; the question that every single girl dreads. “Are you sexually active?”

Feed Your…Teeth

I’m sure most of us (myself included) don’t really stop mid-bite to ponder the effects of different foods on our teeth. And while it doesn’t need to be at the forefront of our thoughts, we should still think about them chompers from time to time.

Feed Your…Brain

We’ve all heard of so-called “brain food.” Brain food should be healthy foods that stimulate your thinking, but I mainly use it as an excuse to eat during finals. When I started feeling sluggish after downing a bag of Skittles during my most recent study-a-thon, I decided to put down the bag of Sun Chps and look into what really constitutes “brain food.”

Do You Suffer From Green Stress?

For the past few months I’ve been talking your ear off about why the earth is in trouble and how you can go green to save our environment. And while it’s great to do whatever you can to protect the planet, there is such a thing as caring a little too much. According to the New York Times, there has been an increasing amount of people that report anxiety and stress because they feel like they are never as green as they would like to be.

Feed Your…Tummy

We all feed our stomachs daily, but are we really giving them what they want and deserve? Sometimes it’s hard to fit healthy food into a busy schedule, making it even harder for us to keep our digestive tract happy and healthy. Unfortunately, one of the most common side effects of an unhappy tum-tum is bloating (ew).

Skiing Green

Whether you’re a seasoned snowboarder or a bunny-slope warrior, the ski slopes have something to offer us all (even if it is only hot chocolate in the lodge cafeteria). Surprisingly though, considering I kiss the snow every 5 feet, skiing isn't always the most environmentally friendly activity.

Feed Your Skin

Believe it or not, what you eat actually influences how you feel on the inside and look on the outside. I’m not just talking about your weight here - I’m talking about your skin. Feeding your body tons of nutritious foods leads to happy skin and in turn, a happier you. So what should you eat?

Save The Planet, One Snack at a Time

As I was researching for what was supposed to be a post on green snack foods, I realized just how eco-harmful the food industry can be. Looking at Newsweek’s Green Rankings for 2009, only 28 of the top 500 companies are from the food and beverage industry. Yes, a measly 5%. Plus, the best ranking food company (Brown and Forman) ranks in 374th place overall! In other words, the large-scale food industry blows.

Green-Out Your NYE Bash

As 2009 winds down and 2010 looms ahead, we all begin thinking about the important things in life. I think most of us can agree that at the top of our list would be one of the most important things of all – throwing an epic NYE bash!

Going Green: The Resolution You Can Actually Keep

And we all know what that means. Yup, that’s right – it’s New Year’s Resolution time. While self improvement is a noble aspiration, it is also an excellent way to make you feel like ish come February when you haven’t made any strides toward your goal.

Add A Little Green to Your Holiday

The holiday season is many things, but eco-friendly is not one of them. (Did you know that we could power 600,000 houses for a year with the amount of electricity wasted on holiday lights?!) When you take into account all of the presents we buy, miles we travel, and food we stuff in our mouths, you can’t help but notice how quickly it all seems to add up.

The Green Girl’s Guide to Winter Produce

If you ask any environmentalist what you should eat to go green, they almost always will mention in-season produce. I, like most of us, love the idea of eating fresh vegetables that haven’t been genetically modified to grow year round.

Have an Eco-Friendly Winter

Winter is one of my favorite seasons. Even though I live in snowless California, I still love cozying up at home during the cold winter months. The only downside to the winter wonderland lifestyle is the negative eco-side effects that are often associated with high thermostat levels and twinkle lights.

Give ‘Em The World: The Ultimate Charity Guide

With the holidays comin’ round the bend, I’m sure most of us are starting to think of gifts both for ourselves and for others. And although receiving is arguably the most enjoyable part of the gift giving tradition, we must not forget others that need our help during this time.

Green Up Your Turkey Day

With Thanksgiving around the corner, there is no doubt that most of us are more than ready for the holidays. Although you’re taking a mental break from school, be sure to stay mindful when it comes to your environmental impact.

Eating Green: Know Your Labels

Whenever I go to the grocery store, I always try my best to load my cart with socially responsible products. Cage free eggs? Uh, yeah why not? Organic lettuce? Sure, throw that on in there. The truth is, though, up until recently, I didn’t really know what these things meant. They’ve just been over-marketed so that I think I’m doing good when really I may just be wasting money.

You Can Recycle More Than Just Beer Cans

We live in a world of disposable everything. Cups, plastic bags, razors, boyfriends; you name it, you can find it in a disposable form. And although this makes our lives terribly easy, it also makes our landfills terribly full. By just being a tad more conscious of your recycling options, you can make a huge difference with relatively minimal effort.

Smart, Savvy, and Sustainable Shopping

As you may have gathered from my previous articles, I am a shopaholic. Even if I have no money, I can’t help but scour the internet for deals at the online sample sales (seriously, check out Ideeli, it’s amazing). And even though I can’t always buy sustainable products, I still try to buy in sustainable ways.

A Girl’s Guide to Green Gastronomy

Last Tuesday I saw the documentary Food, Inc. and it changed my life. Although it had a relatively minimal environmental focus, it still reminded me how important we are as consumers and how much our food purchasing decisions actually make a difference.

Live Green. Technology the Eco-Friendly Way

Regardless of whether you are majoring in computer science or can’t even figure out how to type on an iPhone (guilty), you gotta admit that technology is pretty cool. One recurring downside, however, is that most techie products require lots and lots of electricity which, in turn, requires lots and lots of oil.

Work Out With Your Mother (Earth)

I have this theory that anything that’s good for the planet is good for your health as well. You’ve heard it all before: ditching the car, eating organic greens, and drinking tap water are all great ways to maintain your well-being. But did you know that adding a little green to your workout routine can actually bump it its effectiveness and your subsequent sexiness?

Live Green, Dress Sustainably

I love shopping, but I just can’t help but feel a tad guilty every time I invest in another mother-earth-will-cry-when-I-wear-this kinda number. I know that the clothing industry contributes to global warming, air and water pollution, and tons of waste, but I really can’t bring myself to be Goodwill’s number one customer.

From Red Cups to Green Alternatives

We college students are pretty accurately stereotyped. We party hard, sleep late, and cram for finals until the wee hours of the morning. Luckily for us and the environment, a lot of these common habits can be easily “tweaked” in order to save energy and resources. And as a college student myself, I promise that these steps will not affect your party or study life in any way.

Pretty in Green

Although I am a firm believer in leading an environmentally-friendly life, I am first and foremost a college-aged woman. And what does that mean? It means I am absolutely unwilling to look ugly just for the sake of the environment.

Be a Green Beauty

I love being green. But I loathe the possible side effect of smelling like a blend of hemp and granola from all my green efforts. And I hate when other people smell that way, too. Thus, I have put together a list of the best enviro-friendly bath product companies for ladies. No hemp or granola; only cute, yummy-smelling products that also happen to be good for the environment.

Sexy Time: Online Lovin’

When you think of internet dating, you probably think about your best friend’s 59 year-old father and his many (failed) attempts to meet “the one” on Even if we were dismally lonely, I highly doubt most of us would allow ourselves to get so far as to post our own profile for the viewing pleasure of a middle-aged audience. But what if the dating site was geared towards college students?

Sexy Time: Get to Know the Big O

Last weekend, I had the best orgasm of my life. (I apologize for the over-share, but it really needed to be said.) Days later, as I was thinking about that episode for the 258th time, I realized that I don’t really know much about my best friend, the orgasm.

Sexy Time: Deadline for Love?

There’s no doubt about it – we all want to fall in love eventually. Of course, some of us want it just a little more than others. Take Neenah Pickett, for example. She wants to find her man, badly. She wants to find him so bad, in fact, that she’s given herself a deadline to get her ass in gear. She’s given herself 52 weeks (1 year, for you slow thinkers) to find her husband. And, trust me, this ain’t no half-assed New Year’s resolution biz.

Sexy Time: Love Stoned

April 20th, 2009. A day for "relaxing," eating, and…hooking up? Surprisingly, stoned sex is one of the things on many girls’4/20 to-“do” lists that they just haven’t gotten around to. Before you jump right in this Monday, however, I thought I would do a little research and analysis for ya. Here’s what I would imagine, and what I have learned, could go wrong during some blazed boo-tay.

Sexy Time: What Gets You in the Mood?

We’ve all heard about aphrodisiacs and the supposed boost they can give to our sex lives. I hate to burst your bubble, but most sources say that there is no such thing as an aphrodisiac. Regardless, I decided to go through some of the most notorious aphrodisiacs and anaphrodisiacs to let you decide for yourself. Hey, it couldn’t hurt…
