My Freshman Year: Counting Down and Looking Ahead

Yes, it's true: it’s the final countdown (and I don’t mean the annoying song by Europe, because I won’t do that to you right now). The semester is drawing to a close, final exams are rapidly approaching, and we are all awaiting the commencement of winter break with bated breath.

My Freshman Year: Learning To Beat The Clock

Over the past three months, I’ve found myself falling victim to a peril of college life that most don’t consider an issue until it hits them. It’s that feeling of uncontrollable anxiety when you realize you have three papers, several long reading assignments, classes, TA sessions, club meetings, play rehearsals, study sessions, and exams (breathe) all happening in a very, very short time span.

My Freshman Year: The Midterm Review

With my midterm exams finally over, I’m taking this opportunity to do a little midterm reviewing of my own. Now seems to be the perfect time to reflect on the first quarter of my freshman year and to start looking forward to the rest of the semester, the next semester, and, well, just the future in general. As scary as that sounds.

No Party? No Problem!

Of the many things I’ve learned during my first few weeks of college, perhaps the most often reinforced lesson is that Friday night + Saturday night = party time on campus. But if you’re like me and not really into the party scene, there are still tons of ways to have a great time on the weekend without resorting to the usual standby of a DVD and popcorn. Just get creative (and a permit from public safety)!

College: There’s a First Time for Everything

Freshman year of college, from what I’ve learned so far, is a series of firsts. Some of them are great – first 11:00 a.m. class (yay sleep!), first weekend away at school – while others simply aren’t – like your first midterm exam. But regardless of whether or not these firsts are awesome in themselves, just experiencing them is exhilarating.

8 Things I’ve Learned About College (So Far)

Whew! It’s been three weeks since I first set foot on campus, and what a crazy three weeks it’s been! It might still be too early to tell (psh, yeah right), but I’ve come to the conclusion that college is totally awesome, and for a number of reasons.

There’s just something about leading men that makes us go crazy with adoration/jealousy/excitement/OMG-THEY-FINALLY-GOT-TOGETHER!

Countdown to College: It’s (Almost) Here!

In a couple of days, I will be leaving for college for the first time. No big deal, right? Try telling that to my wobbly knees and trembling hands. Don’t get me wrong; I’m totally excited about going to college. But, at the same time, I’m nervous as hell. My type A personality is rearing its ugly head in the form of innumerable “what ifs” and “holy sh*ts.”

It’s All About Direction When It Comes to Campus Tours

The Times recently published an article about colleges remaking the college tour. You know, rattling off facts and figures while walking backward. However, the article focuses not so much on the content of the tours as the way the tour guides walk – backwards, as is traditional, or forward, the direction in which many colleges are now heading (no pun intended).

I Want My Fall TV Lineup, Dammit!

While flipping through the channels last night during primetime, I discovered the real reason why our favorite shows go off the air during the summer: to make way for the sh*tshow that is summer television, which leaves us begging for The Office and House come September.

Pimp Your Dorm This Fall!

August has arrived, and for those of us that are college-bound, that means shopping for dorm items! Everywhere you go right now there are pillows and posters and chairs, all of which would look perfect in that 10X12 box you're about to call home.

Scientific Studies That Make You Say “Duh”

Scientists these days must be bored out of their minds, because many of the health studies that have been cropping up lately are painfully uninteresting. The results are so obvious that they might as well skip the experiment and just use their common sense.

Will Aiding Soles In Seoul Help or Hurt Women?

When you’re wearing high heels, the last thing you want to do is walk a long distance from your parking space to the store. Well, frankly, the last thing you want to do is walk at all, which is kind of impossible. But the city of Seoul in South Korea is all over this one with its Women Friendly Seoul Project, a plan to turn the city in a more heel-friendly place.
