Intro to Cooking: Low-Cal Spaghetti!

Whether you're just settling in to your dorm or high-five-ing your way through the halls of your sorority house, a new school year is a ripe time for new resolutions.

Intro to Cooking: Sweet, Spicy, and Savory Corn!

There are few culinary pleasures to match the first crunchy, buttery bite of a fresh ear of corn off the cob. And with each rich mouthful, you're taking in healthy doses of folate (to ward off heart disease, colon cancer and to prevent birth defects in the fetuses of pregnant women), thiamin (for better memory), and pantothenic acid (which eases energy production under stress).

Intro to Cooking: Summer Seafood & Potato-Crusted Salmon

The average collegiate cook can whip up a packet of Ramen like nobody's business. If she wants to get fancy, she could probably grill some chicken on the side. But seafood? Summer's ultimate entrée indulgence isn't exactly a regular on the typical sorority cookout menu.

Sexting 101 – Yes, It’s a Real Class

Apparently ridiculous college courses are the new trend on campuses all over the world. I’d go so far as to call them “unnecessary,” but the 440 people who just enrolled in Potsdam University’s e-mail flirtation class would beat down my door (or fill my inbox...) in disagreement. Yes, you read that right- one German university is actually offering a master’s course on how to flirt via modern technology.

Intro to Cooking: Grilled Halloumi Cheese Sandwiches

Happy Fourth of July! Hopefully you’re reading this not too far from a grille or barbecue, because they’re necessary for today’s recipe! Your mouth is probably already watering for hot dogs and burgers, but to give your holiday menu some kick, why not include this week’s ingredient—a personal favorite of mine: halloumi cheese!

Intro to Cooking: Cranberry Applesauce

This Week's Ingredient: Cranberries! They're sweet. They're tart. They're harvested from bogs. And they're a deep, beautiful, fire-engine hue. If your only exposure to cranberries is in combination with their fermented partner, vodka, then you're totally missing out (not to mention that the "cranberry juice" served in bars is basically just sugar water).

Intro To Cooking: Oven Fries

The edges are crispy and savory while the insides are soft and piping hot. They’re so much better than the fries you buy at the concession stand or a fast food restaurant, because they’re actually made from potatoes. They're easy to make and even easier to devour. Just writing this makes me want to whip up a batch and chow down. In my bed. While watching an ANTM marathon.

Intro to Cooking: Advice (and a Recipe) From an Expert

College can be the greatest place on earth... that is, until the cash starts running low. And since right after you read this you are going to head to Urban Outfitters "just to look around", and you are bound to find that rug/lamp/'80s drinking game/hip wall art, and you just "absolutely have to have them all because they are all so cute and will go perfect in your room," you might not be the most frugal shopper on campus.

Intro To Cooking: Grandma’s Dessert Snack Mix

Thanksgiving to New Year's (and the few days after when you're lying around attempting to kick the hangover) is pretty much the universal stuff-your-face time period. It’s suddenly acceptable to drink gallons of Starbucks holiday drinks and eat desserts like there's no tomorrow.

Intro To Cooking: Faux Cookie Dough

Any type of cookie dough is a good type of cookie dough in my book. Cookie dough ice cream, homemade cookie dough, even store-bought Nestle cookie dough is delicious. Especially when eaten directly from the plastic tube with your fingers while watching old episodes of Sex and the City.

Intro To Cooking: Taco Salad On The Fly

There’s really nothing better for a busy college girl than a dinner that tastes fantastic but took less than 15 minutes to make. Unfortunately, the two are almost mutually exclusive in my mind. I say “almost” because I can think of at least one notable exception: taco salad.

Intro to Cooking: Sweet Potato Fries

It's simple: French fries are good but baked sweet potato fries are better! In every way, I might add. They satisfy junk food cravings without the grease and trans fat. And you can rest easy knowing they will be good to your shrinking Coach wallet at less than a dollar an order.

Do It Yourself Tuesdays: Romantic Dinner for Two

It’s like your mom always said: the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Even if you aren’t exactly Julia Child, you can still follow instructions, and that’s all you need to do to bust out a romantic dinner that’ll have him drooling for your food and bolting with you to the bedroom.
