Sinning Will Save The Economy

With the recession guilting me into sacrificing unnecessary luxuries (oh, multiple, daily Starbucks runs, how I miss you!), I’m wondering how others are handling their own sacrifices. Our daily indulgences have now become something to shake a finger at, but many industries are still thriving by playing into our addictions.

Life After College: Back-To-School But Not For Me

Lately it seems like Facebook is on a mission (aided by the company that sells prozac) to make me feel suicidal every time I sign on. For weeks all the status updates and albums were "lovin' summer" and "will it ever stop raining this summer?" I could easily relate to those as I was also experiencing summer and the torrential rain showers of '09.

Death to Crocs, Finally

Finally, a benefit of our failing economy! It turns out that the crocs franchise may not be around as long as we had feared. Instead of scrambling to keep up with (inexplicable) demand, they are now facing millions of dollars of debt and a surplus of really ugly shoes.

It’s Up To Women To Save the Economy

According to at least half a dozen studies, including those from Columbia University, Goldman Sachs, and Ernst & Young, "women can make the difference between economic success and failure in the developing world, between good and bad decision-making in the industrialized world, and between profit and loss in the corporate world.”

A Child Called “It”

So I was reading the news the other day--you know, the usual depressing stuff about the economy and my freakshow state government--when I came across an item that made me literally spit out my iced chai in bewildered shock.

Candy Dish: OK! Magazine Hits New Low

• Perhaps that cover idea wasn't the best idea. • Ok, so maybe the economy isn't looking so great, afterall. • Career change for Rihanna? • These people liked Michael Jackson a bit too much. • No dorm room is complete without the neon sign. • DIY circumcision? With a nail clipper?!

There ARE Jobs Out There, Grads!

So your beer guzzling, frat hopping days are over. And to top it off, you moved back home to live with your parents cuz there are no jobs out there in the big, bad, real world these days, right? Wrong! There are. You might just not be looking in the right places.

Senior Skip Day…er…Year

We're all feeling the effects of the recession; we've gotten pretty good at cutting back on expenditures, and super creative reusing the resources we already have. Despite the economic downturn, though, most of us have not forgone the chance at a college degree, even with the extremely high price tag. But wouldn't it be nice to have about $10,000 or so of that cost shaved off?

Life After College: And The Growing Up Begins

I've grown up a lot in the past week. How could I not with all the positive encouragement from the commenters last week? I got up off the couch, got a pants suit, and got a job with benefits. Well I got off the couch... and that's a start.

Graduating in ’09 is Bad for the Bank Account

If you’re graduating this spring and you’ve managed to score a job you’re probably thanking god (if you still believe there is one) and thinking you’re super lucky. But think again. Because according to the WSJ, those currently entering the labor market won’t only be suffering from low-salary syndrome this year, but for, uh, ten more to come. Yes, ten years—or more!

Gossip Girl: I Wish My Seder Was This Exciting

After a two-week hiatus (WTF, CW?) Gossip Girl returned last night. I don’t know if I can handle any more breaks, but OMG, was it worth the wait! As the weather changes outside, so are our friends from the Upper East Side.
