With the holidays approaching we are slowly stepping into the winter. And with Christmas on our dors, soon sparkle and...
Most people think of plaid as just for prepsters, but it can actually be pretty fashionable! Paired with boots, chunky knits, or dark colors, it's perfect for the chillier months. But if you're unsure about adding plaid to your wardrobe, the great news is it's easy to incorporate it as little or as much as you'd like! Lucky for people like myself with an eternal love for polka dots, designer heavy weights such as Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney had us seeing spots for their F/W 2011 collections. Yes ma'am, the polka dot is big (but not literally) this season.
Plaid is one of thing that never goes out of style, but I'm sure many ladies who had to wear a plaid skirt pre-university gag at the thought of wearing plaid again. This summer fashion is taking cues from one of our favorite girls from Kansas, who wore a memorable gingham dress on her journey along the yellow brick road. The modern day interpretation? Checked fabric made into everything from skirts to scarves.
Jennifer Lopez has been one of my style icons for over a decade. As a supremely awkward adolescent girl, I used to watch her music videos and drool over her sexy, trendy, totally stunning outfits that she wore with the kind of confidence that I continue to marvel at to this day.

Plaid is one of the 10 Modern Pieces Every Girl Should Own and the plaid shirt has become a uniform for both male and female college students. It's easy to wear with jeans, super comfy, and looks good even when it's been balled up on your floor and you only have 10 minutes to make it to class.
I'll admit, a few years ago when leggings came back in style, I thought there was no way I'd wear them. In fact, I told everyone I knew that I'd rather "walk around pants-less than try and pass off some leggings as pants." Obviously, I've since eaten my words.
While the cardigan can be associated with our favorite childhood neighbour, Mr. Rogers, the cardigan is no longer just for old men. A cardigan is easily the most versatile piece of clothing you can own. Chicer than a hoody, the cardigan goes with everything, be it with jeans or over a dress.
There are many ways to wear plaid, despite your shape, style or budget. Every type of clothing and accessory imaginable can be found in plaid this season. Whether you want to make a statement with a plaid coat, or embrace this trend secretly (via Victoria), there's the perfect piece (or pieces!) out there for you.
The recession is bad news for anyone looking to get a job, save some money or sell a house. But it's great news for fashionistas! Stores that were once dowdy and just screamed "crazy cat lady" are bringing in new designers to create chic lines at lower prices.
• Pamela Anderson is a "fashion" designer. • 8 habits that wreck a relationship. • Jamie Kennedy is a dawg. • We're still mad for plaid. • Megan Fox knows her role. • Everyone needs a little purple in their closet.
