8 Under $20: JC Penney

The recession is bad news for anyone looking to get a job, save some money or sell a house. But it's great news for fashionistas! Stores that were once dowdy and just screamed "crazy cat lady" are bringing in new designers to create chic lines at lower prices.

Dollar Pitchers No More

I am thoroughly pissed off. And you should be too. It’s been announced that the price of beer is on the rise this fall due to the fact that sales are down and the cost of making it is up. Now, I don’t know who is cutting back on their beer intake (how else are you supposed to cope with the declining economy and increasing joblessness?), but it sure as hell isn’t us college students.

Sinning Will Save The Economy

With the recession guilting me into sacrificing unnecessary luxuries (oh, multiple, daily Starbucks runs, how I miss you!), I’m wondering how others are handling their own sacrifices. Our daily indulgences have now become something to shake a finger at, but many industries are still thriving by playing into our addictions.

I’m Torn: Sample Sale Sites

I've heard of them all: Gilt Group, Hautelook, Rue La La, Ideeli... The exclusive, invite only "sample sale" sites that promise hot labels to a select group of shoppers at a reduced cost. Once you snag an invite, they seem like a win-win, right?

The Budget Stylista: Ra-Ra-Rompers On The Ch-Ch-Cheap

There really is no faster way to look both put together and able to go from day to night than a romper. Think about it - you don't have to pick a top to match your bottom, which seems like a minimal task right now, but is actually difficult when you hit snooze for too long on all four alarms.

Death to Crocs, Finally

Finally, a benefit of our failing economy! It turns out that the crocs franchise may not be around as long as we had feared. Instead of scrambling to keep up with (inexplicable) demand, they are now facing millions of dollars of debt and a surplus of really ugly shoes.

The Recession Hits College Campuses. Hard.

We all know that there have been some crazy budget cuts for colleges, but did you know what that means for you? Any idea what might be coming next for your school?

Financial Sacrifices You Just Won’t Make

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, in this time of deep financial distress, people are cutting back on food purchases in order to hold onto their cable TV subscriptions. In fact, grocery bills are being cut faster than even cell phone services! Is there something wrong with this picture?

Senior Skip Day…er…Year

We're all feeling the effects of the recession; we've gotten pretty good at cutting back on expenditures, and super creative reusing the resources we already have. Despite the economic downturn, though, most of us have not forgone the chance at a college degree, even with the extremely high price tag. But wouldn't it be nice to have about $10,000 or so of that cost shaved off?

Money Matters: Cut Costs Now to Splurge This Summer

There are only a few weeks left of the Spring 2009 semester, so how are you going to spend your summer? If you're like many poor students across the country, you're going to waste at least the first month of summer vacay working (and sweating) your ass off in the grueling heat in order to pay off the debt you racked up this term.

Anthropologie Takes Forever 21 To Court

I was always told that imitation was the finest form of flattery. Mind you, this was back in the day when I was overweight with a perm and the boys in school who were imitating me were definitely not trying to flatter me. Anyways, I grew up believing that to be the case, but it turns out I was wrong. At least when said imitation is getting in the way of making big money.

Gossip Girl: I Wish My Seder Was This Exciting

After a two-week hiatus (WTF, CW?) Gossip Girl returned last night. I don’t know if I can handle any more breaks, but OMG, was it worth the wait! As the weather changes outside, so are our friends from the Upper East Side.
