Usually I feature items that I consider timeless; things that you can wear again and again no matter the season. For the very last edition of the Fashion Essentials series, I’ve decided to highlight something that a lot of people either skip entirely or go overboard on: seasonal trends.
Meet Chloe. Whenever I see her on campus, she always has the cutest outfits on that make you think of picnicking in green meadows and somersaulting across the grassy field. Her style is always really fresh with girly touches like headbands and hair pins, and plenty of gold-toned jewelry to go with. And no one has ever seen her without a cloth bag. Ever.
So, it's fall and besides the ho-hum return to class, this lovely season means nothing but greatness. And by greatness I mean new shoes!! There's no better excuse than the approaching cold weather to stock up on the season's hottest boots, heels and flats.
While everyone is fabulous in their own right, we thought we should celebrate the campus fashionistas of the world for their continued excellence in not looking like a hot mess for class. So, we started stalking those girls (and guys!) on campus to get a few pics and get some tips on their personal style. And maybe a restraining order or two.
So maybe I'm a little behind on the trend, but I've found myself fascinated by ankle boots lately. At first I wasn't so sure - in fact, I was pretty damn sure I hated those things - but I've been watching girls prance around in them for a year now and they're totes growing on me.
Leggings are already a wardrobe staple, but this fall they will make a statement with metallic hues, embellishments, cut-outs, and bright prints. Leather leggings were everywhere during fall fashion shows, and ripped and printed looks are quickly becoming a popular trend.
Jewelry can make or break an outfit. This is fact. It's a great way to spice up your usual uniform (jeans, black v-neck, black flats - I know it all too well), assuming, of course, that you don't go overboard and look like you went shopping in your grandma's closet (tchotchke heaven).
If Carrie Bradshaw was literally going to be the lady who lived in her shoes, then I will be the lady who lived in her handbags. I guess the upside is that handbags are a lot roomier and more cushion-y than those 12 million pairs of Manolos Carrie rocked on a season to season basis.
There really is no faster way to look both put together and able to go from day to night than a romper. Think about it - you don't have to pick a top to match your bottom, which seems like a minimal task right now, but is actually difficult when you hit snooze for too long on all four alarms.
Lulus.com, our favorite shopping website, is offering CollegeCandy readers 15% their orders from today until August 1st! All you have to do is type in COLLEGECANDY at checkout and you've got yourself a 15% discount. Woohoo!
Kate Bosworth is totally rocking the white denim. Which, in case you've neglected to look at ANY fashion magazine or read anything on this website in the past year and a half, is a major fashion trend. And not only is it a trend - it's an adorably cute summer one.
Every week our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to. All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire ensemble.
