When it comes to the dating scene, technology can be a real life ruiner. Not only are we constantly swiping right on prospective dates and trading in so-so people for someone higher up on Tinder, we’re also using our phones to shamelessly breakup with our respective boyfriends and girlfriends. I’m not sure what’s happened over the last few years, but I can’t be the only one who thinks dumping your boyfriend of seven months over text is the right way to end things. But regardless of how much that situation sucks, there’s always worse.
That’s right, I’m talking about ghosting.
For anyone who’s been fortunate enough to not experience the horrifying phenomenon (or lives under a rock and therefore doesn’t know WTF the term means), ghosting, according to Urban Dictionary, is “The act of suddenly ceasing all communication with someone the subject is dating, but no longer wishes to date.” Yup, you don’t even get a measly “leave me alone or I’ll call the f*cking police” text. But now there’s a new low on the breakup front: mooning.
According to GQ, mooning is a harsher form of ghosting, in which users switch their iPhones to “Do Not Disturb” instead of just ignoring their SO like a normal person.

Yup, we’ve hit a new low.
For anyone who wants to commit the ultimate digital “f*ck you,” here’s how to moon. It’s all in the settings. Once you’re there, head to the “Do Not Disturb” option and switch your phone to “Manual.”

The term traces back to the moon icon that shows up in the status bar once you enable the setting. It’s the worst, but if you’re that much of a baby and don’t want to breakup with your SO, you just got another way out.
Note: those people, please stay as far away from me as possible, thanks.
