When Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt earlier this year, the public was shocked, and even more so when they heard that Pitt was allegedly abusive towards the couple’s children. Despite the media’s desperate ploy to get intimate details on the downfall of Brangelina’s marriage, their former bodyguard Mark Billingham was really the only one willing to talk. But now Jolie has broken her silence.
Earlier this week, Pitt was cleared of child abuse allegations following an investigation by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services regarding an incident involving the couple’s son Maddox. According to reports, on September 14th, 2016 Pitt allegedly got “verbally abusive” and “physical” with their oldest son while on a private plane. The following day, Jolie officially filed for divorce in an effort to protect her children and herself, but according to authorities, there was never a legitimate threat.
Jolie’s spokesperson released the following statement, reacting to the news:
“The job of the DCFS is to make sure the children are in a safe and secure situation. As we said earlier this week, childcare professionals encouraged a legal agreement accepted and signed by both sides that was in the best interest of the children. Angelina said from the beginning that she felt she had to take action for the health of the family and is relieved that after their 8-week involvement, the DCFS is now satisfied the safeguards are put in place that will allow the children to heal.”
When news of the divorce surfaced in September, Jolie’s attorney Robert Offer released a statement asking for privacy. “Angelina has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time.”
Will she come forward with more? We’ll just have to wait and see.
