Right in time for the holiday season, Kylie Jenner finds herself in deep sh*t. Earlier this month, the 19-year-old makeup guru announced her awesome holiday collection. When we first heard the news, we were obsessed. After all, it’s not everyday you get a freakin’ lipgloss with real diamond powder in it. But despite the hype, Jenner might be facing a major lawsuit. According to TMZ, makeup artist Vlada Haggerty accused her of copying her work for the collection and is now threatening to sue.
The photo in question is the below, which shows a girl covering her eyes with gold-covered fingers while also sporting impeccably lined red lips. The photo was posted to Kylie Cosmetics’ Twitter page on November 19.
Several days later, Vlada posted her own image placed next to Jenner’s, asking, “Haven’t you gotten enough ‘inspiration’ from me already?” In 2015, a similar spat broke out between Vlada and Jenner when she accused Kylie Cosmetics of using one of her photos without proper attribution. The brand later edited the image to credit Vlada, but according to Vlada, no one ever contacted her.
Photographer Julia Kuzmenko McKim, who shot Vlada’s photo, has since posted her own response to the alleged plagiarism.
“It breaks my heart to see how large brands take independent, unprotected artists’ work and use them to multiply their wealth,” she wrote in a lengthy blog post. “In an ideal world, big brands would easily prevent such backlashes by hiring the artists who have already created something that they would love for their own campaigns.”
Kylie Jenner, nor a spokesperson for Kylie Cosmetics, have responded to the threat.
