Does Your “Number” REALLY Matter?

I was at my internship when I came across the list of LiLo’s alleged lovers and was, like everyone else, pretty shocked. I could barely focus on filing my respective pile of magazines ‘til lunch break. Over huge buffalo chicken salads, my coworker and I pored over the list on her iPhone. Timberlake, Effron and Ledger. Oh my! Lindsay’s been to bed with your favorite actors’ favorite actors.
“Isn’t she only like, 27?” my coworker asked. “And she STILL has some ways to go!”
I laughed along and continued studying the list. And I won’t lie – I judged Lindsay. A little. I’m still conservative when it comes to sex seeing that I haven’t had it yet, so 36 men was a high number to me (though some say that it’s really nothing).
I came across this Huffington Post link a few days later that made me change my mind and reevaluate some of the sex-related shade that I’ve thrown throughout the years. ‘Guys We F***ked, The Anti Slut-Shaming Podcast,’ is the brainchild of two New York City-based comedians and self-proclaimed feminists Corinne Fisher and Krystyna Hutchinson. The twentysomething duo are using their viral podcast to address sex as openly as they want to – and according to them, it’s due time.
“A lot of times the argument we’ll hear is: ‘Well, I don’t think men or women should be talking this graphically about sex. Sex is private,’” Corinne told the Huffington Post. “I totally hear people on that. That’s the beauty — you can keep your sex private. It’s almost like we’re taking it a little over the top and talking about sex a little more in-depth just to push the point home that this is not something to be ashamed of.”
I’ve been listening to the podcasts all day and admire the duo’s “proud of all this bass, let me put it in your face”-style approach. Yes, there have been many men between the two of them. Maybe more than 36. But why should that be something to hide? Sex is a part of life. Some just wave their freak flag higher than others. Listen to the very first “Guys We F***ed” podcast and weigh in.
