Bored with your current summer workout routine? Summer vacation doesn’t necessarily have to involve a trip, fancy hotel, or relaxing spa day – although, a girl can dream, right? So for those of us who are busy working, taking classes, interning, or just trying to save some cash, perhaps a vacation from your usual, go-to workout regimen is exactly what you need. And aerial yoga is a great place to start!
Right about now you’re probably thinking aerial yoga is code for some cirque du soleil-esque workout. And you’re right, it totally is! Aerial yoga uses circus hammocks to move and shape the body, and help achieve different yoga poses. The unique twist on the traditional practice of yoga also makes it easier for those of us who have trouble sitting in pretzel position, let alone maintaining the side cow position. Aerial yoga is really designed to enhance the workout, speeding up the time it take to learn and execute each move with proper form, which in tern enhances the benefits of each routine. With the weight of the body being either partially or fully supported by the hammock, moves become easier to achieve, and much easier to hold; two key elements in the practice of yoga. The hammocks can even help a beginner achieve advanced moves, and provide the opportunity for a whole new set of poses that literally defy gravity. And let’s not forget what an awesome workout you’ll get! You’ll burn calories, work on flexibility, and tone tons of muscles all across your body for a total-body workout.
