Sailor Moon originally started out as a Manga, created by Naoko Takeuchi, in 1991 but with its rise in popularity it became a must-see anime series in Japan. Sailor Moon aired from 1992-1997, airing 200 episodes about the magical girl defenders reborn to protect a kingdom that spanned the solar system.
Do I have to sing it? Fiiiiiiiighting evil with mooooooon light, wiiiiiiiiiiinning looove by daaaaaay light, never running from a real fight, she is the one named Sailor Moon. I was way into Sailor Moon when I was a kid, I had my own Sailor Moon scepter, posters and action figures. I just loved a show about a few chicks with magical powers who kicked ass. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized how edgy and clever the show actually was. Sailor Moon was sassy and on top of that she was incredibly strong and smart, yet still she would have the same kinds of problems as normal teenage girls. She’d stand up for herself but not feel pretty enough, she was totally boy obsessed and slightly neurotic but she wouldn’t let those distractions stop her from saving lives. In retrospect Sailor Moon had plenty to teach me about being an ass-kicking lady.
