After introducing herself on the cover of Vanity Fair, Caitlyn Jenner is already receiving a flood of support for finally embracing who she is. Of course, the new question is when will Caitlyn appear live at an event?
ESPN announced that she’ll be receiving their annual Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2015 ESPYS on July 15. It will be her first public appearance since appearing in Vanity Fair.
In the 1976 Olympics, Jenner represented the United States and dominated the decathalon. As an Olympic icon and as a public figure, Jenner has now educated America about what it means to be transgender.
“In the past few months, the overwhelming outpouring of support from all over the world for my journey has been incredible,” Caitlyn said in a press release. “However, being honored with this award, which is named after one of my heroes, is truly special. For the first time this July, I will be able to stand as my true self in front of my peers.”
Previous Arthur Ashe awards went to Muhammad Ali, Nelson Mandela, and Robin Roberts. Caitlyn’s big speech will definitely make this year’s ESPYs a must-watch, whether or not sports are your thing.
